Japanese Power Companies Raise Daytime Fees

Japanese power companies are planning to raise daytime electricity fees.

Tokyo Electric Power Company is planning to charge 53-point-29 yen for electricity use between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., four-point-four times higher than the nighttime rate of 12-point-13 yen.

The Kansai Electric Power Corporation’s fees for power usage between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. are six-point-four times higher than what it charges at night.

Experts predict that the increased fees will encourage people to change their life habits and increase power consumption at night to reduce their electricity bills.
