Chinese President Demands 'Absolute Loyalty' from Military

Chinese President Hu Jintao is demanding “absolute loyalty” from China’s military.

China’s official People’s Daily newspaper reported that Hu, China’s commander in chief, said in a meeting with military officials on Wednesday that the basic duty of the military is to show absolute loyalty and unwaveringly follow the orders of the Communist Party.

The meeting was attended by supreme commanders from the Beijing Military Region, Vice President Xi Jinping, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission Guo Boxiong and Defense Minister Liang Guanglie.

The Beijing Military Region is one of China’s seven military regions and is tasked with guarding the Chinese capital.

Previously, international news outlets reported that subtle tension exists between the Chinese leadership and the military since the ouster of former party heavyweight Bo Xilai.
