Japan Likely to Again Propose ICJ Resolve for Dokdo Issue

Japan is expected to convey a verbal note to South Korea on Tuesday proposing that the aggravating issue over the Dokdo islets be addressed at the International Court of Justice.

The Japanese government will convene a Cabinet meeting Tuesday with Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and discuss various measures regarding Dokdo.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura previously said that the meeting will mark the beginning of overall measures that Japan will take in the future regarding the disputed islets in the East Sea.

Japan is reportedly considering suspending or reducing its currency swap accord with South Korea or not supporting South Korea when electing nonpermanent members in the UN Security Council, as a means to protest Seoul's handling of the Dokdo issue.
