Japan to Purchase New Patrol Ships

Japanese daily, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, says Japan’s Coast Guard will purchase four cutting-edge patrol ships.

The newspaper reported the new patrol ships, one-thousand ton each, are equipped with long-distance nightscopes and large-caliber guns to be better prepared for potential threats.

Special guards will be on board to inspect suspect ships. It remains undecided where the new boats will be dispatched, however, the Nihon Keizai predicts they will be sent to disputed regions like the Senkaku Islands or the East Sea.
