N. Korean Leader to Visit Iran for NAM Summit

The Iranian government says North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will visit Tehran to attend the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit opening Sunday.

NAM Spokesman Mohammad-Reza Forqani said Tuesday that Kim selected Iran as his first place to visit abroad as the leader of North Korea. The spokesman added that the five-day summit will see the participation of leaders from some 40 countries.

An online news organization reports that leaders from India, Pakistan, Egypt, Ecuador and Cuba will be attending.

The Non-Aligned Movement consists of 120 member states and 21 observer states that do not consider themselves to be aligned with or against any major power bloc. Egypt will chair this year’s summit.
