South Korea has recovered after 102 years a building on the outskirts of Washington that served as the Korean legation in the United States.

The Japanese government forcibly purchased the building for just five dollars and resold it to an American before its colonization of Korea in 1910.

The South Korean government and National Assembly came up with some four billion won to repurchase the building and eventually South Korea regained ownership after related negotiations concluded.

The building, which is considered a symbol of Korea’s independent diplomacy, will be used to promote Korea’s culture and history.
