Afghan War Claims Lives of 2,000 US Soldiers

The New York Times says fighting in Afghanistan has now claimed the lives of two-thousand U.S. soldiers.

The U.S. daily reported Tuesday that the death toll had reached two-thousand in the nearly eleven-year-old conflict.

The Times said that in particular, one-thousand of the deceased soldiers died after the 33-thousand strong troop surge to Afghanistan in 2010.

The report added that every one out of two soldiers was killed in either Kandahar Province or Helmand Province in Taliban-dominated southern Afghanistan, noting the Marine Corp's casualty rate was twice as high as the Army's.
