A U.S. jury has ordered Samsung Electronics to pay Apple over one billion dollars for ripping off features of Apple handsets and tablet computers.

The nine-member federal jury awarded the U.S. company one-point-05 billion dollars in damages on Friday in the high-stakes patent trial with Samsung.

The United States District Court for the Northern District of California is expected to issue an official ruling within a month at the earliest.

Apple initially sued Samsung for copying its handset designs and infringing its software patents last year. Samsung countersued saying Apple violated its technology patents.

Earlier Friday, a South Korean court ruled in favor of Samsung Electronics in another patent lawsuit. Apple and Samsung are currently tangled in roughly 30 similar lawsuits in nine countries.
