Syrian state media report a mortar shell crashed into a university in Damascus Thursday, killing at least 15 and injuring more than 20.

State-run al-Ikhbariya TV reported on Thursday local time that the shell struck the cafeteria of the engineering campus of the University of Damascus.

The Syrian government criticized anti-government militias as being responsible for the brutal attack.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based activist group, said at least ten were killed by the shelling, noting several of the injured are in serious condition.
