Japan Reportedly Plans to Abolish Every-Cow-Testing Policy

Japanese media report Tokyo is planning to abolish its policy mandating complete enumeration surveys on cattle for mad cow disease.

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will try to induce local governments to give up the “every-cow-testing” policy by reducing subsidies to the ones that remain adamant on the thorough measure.

The ministry explained that the testing of every cow is scientifically meaningless and gives the impression that Japanese beef is not safe.
