Italian police have seized more than one billion euros in assets from a Sicilian energy business magnate for his alleged ties to the Mafia.

An Italian anti-mafia police unit said that it seized 43 wind and solar energy companies, 66 bank accounts and 98 properties from Vito Nicastri, who is known as the “Lord of the Wind” in Sicily.

Nicastri is suspected of having close connections with the Mafia and allowing the criminal organization to use his wind farms to base its operations.

Local police said that it was the largest seizure of mafia-linked assets in the country’s history.
