Russia Condemns N. Korea's Efforts on Boosting Status as Nuke Power

Russia has denounced North Korea’s efforts to underline its status as a nuclear power and called for the swift resumption of the six-way nuclear talks.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said Thursday that Russia is concerned about the North’s move to legalize its status as a nuclear weapons state and adoption of an ordinance that gives nuclear weapons greater prominence in its defense.

Lukashevich said the North’s failure to fulfill obligations of UN Security Council resolution is intolerable and urged North Korea to stop its dangerous rhetoric.

He then stressed that Russia believes that the six-way nuclear talks should resume in order to resolve issues regarding the Korean Peninsula.
