China is denying a report by Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun that it moved tanks and several thousand troops to the border region with North Korea last month.

Chinese daily the Global Times said it inquired about the report with the Chinese Defense Ministry, which denied any large-scale military movement.

The Times reported that the ministry said Beijing is keeping a close eye on political developments on the Korean Peninsula and is working to maintain peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
