US Scientists Succeed in Creating Embryonic Stem Cells

U.S. science magazine "Cell" says on its online edition that a group of U.S. researchers succeeded in turning human skin cells into embryonic stem cells for the first time.

The researchers at Oregon State University said they produced the embryonic stem cells through somatic-cell nuclear transfer which involves transplanting a cell nucleus into another donor's egg of which its own nuclear DNA has been removed.

The research team used 126 eggs donated by nine women and succeeded in creating six embryonic stem cells.
