US Trade Agency Deals Blow to Apple in Patent Dispute with Samsung

A U.S. trade body has ruled to ban the sale and import of some iPhone models in the U.S. in a patent suit between Samsung Electronics and Apple.

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) said Tuesday that it accepted Samsung’s claims that Apple infringed on some of its patents. It then issued an order banning the sale and imports of AT&T models of the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G.

U.S. President Barack Obama will receive the order and has 60 days to review it. It will go into effect if he chooses not to veto it.

The commission’s recent ruling comes after it delayed a decision on the patent rights battle between Samsung and Apple five times. The agency was initially set to reach a decision on January 14th.

In a preliminary ruling last August, the commission ruled that Apple had not infringed on any of Samsung’s patents.
