U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping have agreed that North Korea has to denuclearize and they will work together to achieve the common goal.
On the second day of the U.S.-China summit held at the Sunnylands estate in Palm Springs, California, Obama and Xi also made it clear that neither country will accept North Korea as a nuclear-armed state.
As the talks wrapped up on Saturday, White House national security adviser Tom Donilon told reporters that Obama and Xi found some "alignment" on the North Korea issue. He said that China has taken a number of steps to send a clear message to North Korea, and Obama and Xi again signaled their plan for “enhanced cooperation” on the issue.
Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi told reporters that the Chinese president told his U.S. counterpart that the two sides were "the same in their positions and objectives" on the North Korean issue.
