US: N. Korea's Offer for Talks No Different from Past Proposals

The United States has reaffirmed that North Korea first needs to take substantial steps toward denuclearization following its proposal to hold high-level talks with the U.S.

U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said during a press briefing on Monday that the North has made similar proposals hundreds of times but Washington hasn’t seen evidence that the latest offer is any different from proposals made in the past.

Psaki said that in order to achieve the goal of denuclearization, North Korea must "engage in authentic and credible negotiations that produce concrete denuclearization actions."

She then stressed that the U.S. will decide whether to resume dialogue with the North only after adjusting opinions with members of the six-way nuclear talks.
