Speaker Praying Filibuster Ends by Friday Morning

National Assembly Speaker Chung Ui-hwa said Thursday that he is praying the ongoing filibuster, which is stalling the vote on an anti-terrorism bill, will end by Friday morning.

Rival party leaders had previously agreed to pass a bill on redrawing the nation's electoral map on Friday. However, it is only possible if the filibuster ends.

Speaking to reporters Thursday, Chung pointed out the physical toll on lawmakers from the endless speeches being given on the matter.

Regarding mediation of the anti-terror bill, Chung said the Assembly's legislation office and the minor opposition People's Party have presented a couple of ideas, which parliamentary negotiation group representatives are believed to be discussing currently.
