The South Korean government will announce enhanced quarantine measures for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays.

Health Ministry spokesperson Son Young-rae said on Monday that the central and municipal governments will finalize the measures, before announcing them on Tuesday.

The spokesperson said these heightened rules will be separate from raising social distancing to Level Three, which is the highest, and added that no decision has yet been made on adjusting the level.

Amid the latest wave of the epidemic, the daily COVID-19 surge has stayed at around one thousand cases a day for the past week.
