The government will sell the land confiscated from the descendants of pro-Japanese collaborators during the colonial period.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said on Sunday that it will sell off 148 lots of the seized land on the occasion of the 102nd anniversary of the March 1 Independence Movement.

The ministry said that the money from the selloff will be used to honor the merits of independence fighters and help stabilize the livelihood of the fighters and their descendants.

Since 2005, nearly 868-thousand square meters of land owned by pro-Japanese collaborators and their offspring has been reverted to the government. The combined property, making up about 13-hundred pieces, is valued at 85-point-three billion won.

The government plans to select and sell 148 pieces of seized land worth 21-point-two billion won.
