Five of the 13 employees at a state housing development corporation accused of land speculation were identified as ranking mid-level management.

Documents submitted by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation(LH) to ruling Democratic Party(DP) Rep. Park Sang-hyuk on Tuesday stated that the employees purchased a total of 12 plots of land priced at over ten billion won between August 2017 and February 2020.

Ten bought eight plots, totaling 17-thousand-995 square meters, either separately or in groups in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province. The other three purchased four plots, totaling eight-thousand-990 square meters, in Gwangmyeong.

Both cities were included in the government's recently announced massive urban development project.

Eight worked at the LH office in Gyeonggi's Gwacheon which oversaw projects in the cities of Gwacheon and Uiwang. Four others worked in North Jeolla Province, while one had a spouse that worked in the Gwacheon office. Some handled duties related to land compensation.

The alleged perpetrators likely exchanged confidential information before buying the property taking advantage of their existing relationship formed at the Gwacheon office.

Those found to be involved in speculation and other illegalities will face either suspension or expulsion. LH will also restrict employees' land transactions and require them to hand in reports of any such transactions in the future, including those by family members.
