Heavy rain will bombard the southern regions of the peninsula and Jeju Island on Monday and Tuesday as Typhoon Omais is forecast to make landfall soon.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said on Monday that the typhoon is expected to pass through waters near Jeju at night and make landfall on the southern coast around 12 a.m. Tuesday.

Jeju Island and the southern areas are forecast to receive 100 to 300 millimeters of rain until Tuesday, with some parts expected to receive more than 400 millimeters.

The central region, five islands in the western border area, the Dokdo islets and Ulleung Island in the East Sea are likely to be hit with 50 to 200 millimeters of rainfall.

The typhoon is also forecast to bring strong winds of over 30 meters per second to Jeju and the southern areas of the nation.
