N. Korean Leader Inspects Troops on Anniv. of KPA Founding

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected troops on Thursday upon the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army.

North Korean media said that the inspection was held in front of the Geumsusan Memorial Palace where the embalmed bodies of North Korea’s founder Kim Il-sung and his son, former leader Kim Jong-il, lie in state.

During the ceremony, the commanders of the North’s Army, Navy and Air Force pledged their allegiance to the lineage of Kim Il-sung and issued nuclear threats toward South Korea and the U.S.

However, unlike in the past, Thursday’s ceremony was carried out relatively quietly without a military parade boasting various weapons.

The North apparently carried out the inspection of troops in a quiet manner in order not to further raise military tensions in the region as South Korea, the U.S. and China have proposed to hold talks with Pyongyang.
