Between the two, I prefer to call. why? because if it's something urgent and I need a quick response, there's nothing faster than a call.
I also prefer to call because I hear the voice of the person and I can tell if she is nervous or not. I like to call it in short.
Although I send many messages, but they are for trivial matters.
