Body of Korean Soldier Killed in Afghanistan to Arrive Home Friday

The body of a Korean soldier killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan will return home on Friday.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said Thursday that it will hold a ceremony to mark the arrival of the late Sergeant Yoon Jang-ho.

Yoon's body will be delivered to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital near Seoul. Defense Minister Kim Jang-soo and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Kwan-jin will visit the hospital to offer condolences Friday afternoon.

The Army said it will record Sergeant Yoon’s death as “killed in action,” having promoted him posthumously to staff sergeant. It has also decided to grant him an “Order of Military Merit.”
