Asahi: Lee MB to Visit Japan in April

A Japanese daily says President-elect Lee Myung-bak will likely visit Tokyo in April for summit talks with Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda.

Quoting a number of sources, the Asahi Shimbun said Tuesday preparations are under way for South Korea’s incoming president to visit Japan about the same time he travels to the United States.

The paper said Washington hopes for an early visit by Lee to the U.S. But the president-elect is reportedly planning a visit there after Korea’s general elections on April ninth.

According to the report, Lee may visit the U.S. before Japan. The report cited the advice of some aides that it could be viewed as diplomatically inappropriate for him to stop by Japan on the way to the U.S.
