Korean Cars Get Favorable Emissions Grades

A study finds that Korean vehicles emit less pollutants than cars imported from overseas.

The Environment Ministry said Wednesday that its analysis of foreign and domestic cars showed that Korean cars, on average, had better emissions grades.

In the study of 23 Korean car models and 41 makes of imported cars, vehicles made by Ssangyong Motor posted the top average emissions grade of two-point-33.

Vehicles made by Hyundai Motor ranked second with a two-point-56, followed by GM Daewoo cars with a two-point-75. Korea’s Kia Motors put up a two-point-86.

Among imports, American cars scored a two-point-67, while Japanese vehicles came in at three-point-11. European cars scored a three-point-22.

Auto emissions standard grades range between one and five, with a lower number reflecting lower emissions.
