Rodong Sinmun Calls for Military's 'Absolute Obedience' to Ruling Party

North Korea’s official newspaper has called for the military's "absolute obedience" towards the ruling Workers' Party as the state marked the 61st anniversary of the Day of Songun, or Army-First Day.

Stressing that military force leads to national power, the ruling party mouthpiece Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday said, for a military to become an invincible force that can defeat any powerful enemy, it should have the required military technology.

The paper also emphasized the military's "absolute loyalty" and "absolute obedience" to the ruling party, in line with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's party-centered leadership.

This stands in contrast to his late father and predecessor Kim Jong-il, who placed priority on weapons development and other military-building efforts under the so-called Songun military-first policy.

The Day of Songun marks the late leader's visit to the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Armored Division in 1960, which was the first North Korean unit to enter the South Korean capital during the Korean War.
