N.Korean Floods Kill 454 People

A United Nations agency says 454 people have been killed by the recent flooding in North Korea.

The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a Sunday report that 156 people are missing and 4,350 have been injured. More than 436,000 people in six provinces have also suffered damage with nearly 170,000 losing homes.

The statistics are based on data tallied by Pyongyang and global agencies.

The report says 40,000 houses have been completely destroyed and 223,000 hectares of farmland have been damaged, leading to an estimated one million tons of lost harvest this year.

North Korea's statisticial bureau said Saturday that six hundred are dead or missing from the flooding and that thousands are injured.
