RFA: N. Korea Secretly Operating Clothing Factories at Gaeseong Complex
A U.S. broadcaster says that North Korea is secretly operating clothing factories at the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex, which was shut down in February last year.
Quoting a source in China familiar with North Korean affairs, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported that North Korean authorities are secretly running 19 clothing factories at the closed industrial park.
The source reportedly said that the factories are producing clothes for domestic consumption, but mostly for orders placed by China and foreign countries.
The source expected the factories will have difficulties getting foreign orders because UN Security Council Resolution 2375 imposed a ban on North Korean textile exports last month.
North Korea has reportedly operated the factories for more than six months.
