GNP Pres. Candidate to Visit US in October

Grand National Party presidential candidate Lee Myung-bak will meet with U.S. President George W. Bush during a visit to the United States that begins October 14th.

Lawmaker Park Hyung-joon, who serves as a spokesman for Lee, told reporters that the main opposition presidential candidate will meet other influential U.S. figures when he visits Washington and New York next month.

Representative Park said that Lee and Bush will discuss the results of next week's inter-Korean summit, the ongoing six-party nuclear talks and the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.

But the meeting will be an informal one out of consideration for the U.S. administration’s relations with the incumbent Korean government.

A White House source confirmed that the meeting was arranged at the behest of heavyweights in the U.S. Republican Party and is scheduled for October 15th or 16th.
