Gov’t to Provide Relief Aid to Oil Spill Victims

The government will spend nearly 47 billion won, or 50 million dollars, to provide relief for the victims of last month’s disastrous oil spill along the west coast.

Funds will go to living expenses for oil spill victims in the South Chungcheong and South Jeolla provinces.

Government Information Agency chief Kim Chang-ho told reporters that the Cabinet decided Monday to provide cash aid to nine special disaster zones, drawing the aid from the government reserve fund.

In the wake of the nation's worst oil spill ever in mid-December, the government designated Taean and five neighboring areas as special disaster zones. It added Yeonggwang and two other areas to the list on January 18th.
