Japan Seeks UNSC Response to Nuke Test

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida is suspecting that the massive tremor detected near North Korea’s Punggye-ri nuclear test site could be an indicator of the regime’s fifth nuclear test.
Following the seismic detection of a possible nuclear detonation in North Korea on Friday morning, the Japanese minister stressed that if the North conducted another nuclear test, it is a violation of UN resolutions, a Tokyo-Pyongyang declaration and of six-party denuclearization agreements.
Kishida ordered ministry officials to strongly protest to Pyongyang and raise the issue at the UN Security Council, should the tremor is proven to be related to a nuclear test.
He added that the Japanese Foreign Ministry set up an emergency task force and is sharing intelligence with South Korea and the U.S. The minister said that Tokyo will devise countermeasures based on the analysis of the shared information.
