Parties Condemn N. Korea's Nuke Test

Both ruling and opposition camps have condemned North Korea’s fifth nuclear test.
The ruling Saenuri Party, the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea(MPK) and the minor People’s Party respectively held or convened emergency meetings on Friday to discuss the latest provocation.
Ahead of a planned meeting of the party’s Supreme Council, Saenuri’s chief spokesman, Yeom Dong-yeol, said in an emergency briefing that the North’s fifth nuclear test not only marks a destruction of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula but also a provocation and challenge to the international community and all humankind. He then stressed that an immediate and strong response by the international community is most urgent.
MPK Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae said in a countermeasures meeting that the North’s latest test is a clear violation of UN resolutions and a grave act of provocation that raises tensions on the peninsula. She said the North must clearly realize that it has nothing to gain by threatening peace.
The interim leader and floor leader of the People’s Party, Park Jie-won, said in an emergency response meeting that the party strongly denounces the North’s nuclear test. He said the North’s provocation harms not only the peace of the peninsula but also of the entire world, adding that Pyongyang will have to pay for its actions.
