The Chinese government says it firmly opposes North Korea's latest nuclear test conducted despite universal opposition from the international community.
 
China’s Foreign Ministry made the comments in a statement on its Web site on Friday hours after the North’s fifth nuclear test.
 
The statement said that China is committed to denuclearizing and preventing nuclear proliferation on the Korean Peninsula and safeguarding peace and stability of Northeast Asia.
 
The statement strongly urged the North to keep its promise for denuclearization and observe UN Security Council resolutions while stopping all actions that could worsen the situation on the peninsula.
 
China also said it is committed to pursuing the goal of denuclearizing the peninsula as a member of the international community and to resolving the North’s nuclear issue through the six-way nuclear talks.
