VOA: 204 N. Korean Defectors Enter US Since 2006

Voice of America said Saturday that a total of 204 North Korean defectors have entered the United States as refugees since 2006 including one North Korean just Thursday.
Citing State Department data, the broadcaster said the woman in her 30s has settled in the state of Illinois.
Twelve North Korean defectors arrived in the U.S. this year alone. The total count is 204 who made it into America with refugee status under the U.S. North Korean Human Rights Act legislated in 2004.
There are differences depending on the state, but generally, a North Korean receives two to three hundred dollars in monthly cash as well as health insurance and food vouchers for the first eight months.
They can apply for permanent residency after one year and receive citizenship after five years.
