N. Koreans Observe 5th Anniversary of Kim Jong-il's Death

North Koreans are observing the fifth anniversary of the death of their former leader Kim Jong-il.

At noon Pyongyang time on Saturday, the North's Korean Central Television began to sound sirens to mark three minutes of silence.

While the state-run media stopped its regular programming to pay respects to the late leader, motor, train and maritime traffic were all reported to have halted operating.

Kim died at the age of 69 due to a heart attack in 2011.
