Foreign Minister Reaffirms Pressure Track on N. Korea

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se has again made it clear that Seoul will not accept Pyongyang's offer for any dialogue premised on a nuclear-armed North Korea.
Yun reaffirmed the government's unwavering North Korea stance at the parliamentary foreign affairs and unification committee on Thursday.
He stressed that Seoul is administering strong medicine to press Pyongyang to return to denuclearization talks and it cannot afford losing the strong international cooperation on the North Korean nuclear issue.
Yun said that the government will take a stern response posture against the regime, keeping in mind the possibility that the North will employ various ploys during the transition period of power in the U.S., such as through provocations or deceptive proposals for talks.
He said the South Korean government will also enhance its deterrence against the North’s provocations by strengthening the South Korea-U.S. joint defense posture, including extended deterrence.
