US Warns of Consequences for N. Korea’s Unlawful Conduct

The U.S. State Department has warned that North Korea will have to pay a price for its provocative acts.

Department Spokeswoman Anna Richey-Allen made the remarks, following North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s claim on Sunday that his country is close to test-launching an inter-continental ballistic missile.

She made clear that Washington will employ every available channel and means of influence to show to the North that there will be consequences to its unlawful conduct. She stressed that North Korea’s development and test-launches of ballistic missiles are in violation of UN Security Council resolutions, which explicitly prohibit such provocations.

Richey-Allen urged Pyongyang to refrain from provocative actions and inflammatory rhetoric that threaten international peace and stability, and to make a strategic choice to return to serious talks.
