UNSC Sets up Web Site on Monitoring N. Korea's Coal Exports

The UN Security Council(UNSC) has set up a Web site that tightly monitors North Korea’s coal exports which were targeted under recently adopted sanctions against the regime.

Voice of America(VOA) quoted the UNSC committee established pursuant to Resolution 1718 as saying that member states can notify the Security Council of the amount of coal exports received, which will then be reflected immediately on the site.

UNSC Resolution 2321 adopted last November requires UN member states that import coal from the North to notify the committee within a deadline.

Resolution 2321 also stipulates that the committee must post briefed details on its Web site in real time and inform UN members to stop importing coal as soon as combined imports reach 95 percent of the export limit.

Coal imports from the North must not exceed some 400 million U.S. dollars annually or seven-and-a-half million metric tons.
