USFK to Double No. of Apache Guardian Choppers

The Pentagon will deploy two dozen state-of-the-art AH-64E Apache helicopters to U.S. Forces Korea(USFK).

According to the South Korean military on Monday, the U.S. will bring 24 Apache Guardian helicopters to South Korea and deploy them at the Suwon Air Base in Gyeonggi Province.

The USFK currently employs 24 Apache Guardian helicopters. Last November, USFK Commander Gen. Vincent Brooks pledged to double the number of Apache Guardian helicopters to be deployed on the Korean Peninsula.

With a maximum cruising speed of 269 kilometers an hour, the Apache Guardian is capable of carrying 16 Hellfire air-to-surface guided missiles and four Stinger air-to-air guided missiles, respectively.

It can also be equipped with up to 76 70-millimeter rockets and one-thousand-200 rounds of 30-millimeter chain guns and able to quickly destroy the North’s tanks and landing craft air cushion vehicles(LCAC) deployed on the frontline.
