Unification Ministry: N. Korea May Engage in Provocation Around Annual Military Drill

The Unification Ministry has assessed that North Korea is highly likely to engage in provocation in early March when South Korea and the U.S. will launch their annual Key Resolve military exercise.

A ministry official said Tuesday that no particular movements have been detected yet, but the military is keeping a close eye on the North. The official said the North is ready to launch a provocation amid its repeated calls for the suspension of the drill and for Washington to change its policies.

On an opposition presidential contender's call for the resumption of Mount Geumgang tours and reopening of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex, the official said there is a need to seriously ponder over why Seoul is adhering to the stance of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula. The official then added that there is little possibility current policies will change.
