Unification Ministry Approves Provision of TB Medication to N. Korea

The Unification Ministry has approved a request by a private aid agency in South Korea to provide tuberculosis(TB) medicine to North Korea.

The Eugene Bell Foundation Tuesday asked the ministry for permission to deliver medication for treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis(MDR-TB) patients in the North.

Ministry Spokesman Jeong Joon-hee said Wednesday that the ministry granted the request after taking into consideration that treating the disease is urgent and must continue.

The decision marks the first time this year for the Unification Ministry to approve the provision of humanitarian aid to the North.

Eugene Bell Foundation officials will visit the North next month to deliver the medication.
