Saenuri Party Ethics Committee Expels 4 Members

The ruling Saenuri Party’s central ethics committee has decided to expel four party members, including the former head of the party's nomination committee Lee Han-koo, ex-senior presidential secretary Hyun Ki-hwan and former Assembly Speaker Park Hee-tae.
Committee chief Ryu Yeo-hae said on Wednesday that the decisions came as they failed to appear for a meeting on their fate or failed to submit materials defending themselves.
Lee was mired in various controversies while serving as the head of the party nomination committee.
Hyun was indicted on bribery charges in a scandal involving a Busan-based real estate developer.
Former National Assembly Speaker Park lost his party membership as he was found guilty of committing indecent acts by force.
A decision to also remove Lee Byung-suk came in light of the fact that he was sentenced to one year in prison for a third-party bribery charge involving steelmaker POSCO.
Regarding key loyalists of President Park — Representatives Suh Chung-won, Choi Kyung-hwan and Yoon Sang-hyun — the ethics committee plans to deliberate on the level of disciplinary actions for them during its next meeting on Friday.
