NHK: N. Korea Deploys 2 New ICBMs on Standby

NHK reported Sunday that North Korea has deployed two new intercontinental ballistic missiles(ICBMs) equipped with new engines in the north of Pyongyang.

The Japanese public broadcaster quoted a South Korean military official as saying that the North put two ICBMs on standby for test launches.

The official was also quoted as saying that the North was confirmed by the South Korean and the U.S. militaries to have moved the missiles onto mobile launchers before Friday’s inauguration ceremony of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Seoul official told NHK that the missiles consist of two stages, bearing resemblance to North Korea’s new Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missile.

The official said the first-stage fuselage of the missiles looks different from the Musudan and possibly carries a newly developed engine.

The official added the South Korean military is keeping an eye on the two new North Korean ICBMs.
