NIS: N. Korea Hacks S. Korean Defense Company

The National Intelligence Service(NIS) has launched an investigation into a recent cyberattack against a leading South Korean defense company.

Intelligence authorities say the spy agency detected signs early this month that the personal information of people who logged into the unidentified defense firm’s Web site was being leaked.

The NIS reportedly reached a tentative conclusion that North Korea was behind the hacking after looking into the company’s computer network.

The recent cyberattack is said to be a “wormhole hacking,” in which hackers attack a certain site and steal information of people who log into the site. It is considered very unusual for the North to use the type of attack.

The North is known to often carry out distributed denial of service(DDoS) attacks, which attempt to make a certain site unavailable by overwhelming it with traffic from multiple sources.
