British Daily: N. Korea One of the Most Dangerous Countries in World

Britain’s Daily Express reports that North Korea is one of the ten most dangerous countries in the world.

The newspaper announced the list based on the 2016 Global Peace Index compiled by the Sydney-based Institute for Economics and Peace. The nine other countries are Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, South Sudan, Afghanistan and Syria.

The British daily said North Korea is the most dangerous and the least peaceful country in the Asia-Pacific region on the index. It also quoted an Amnesty International official as saying that human rights continue to be violated, as individuals are detained without fair trials and access to their lawyers or families.

The Daily Express said that North Korea has refused to clearly explain about the frequent abductions and enforced disappearances of foreign nationals.

The Institute for Economic and Peace announced the Global Peace Index last year after measuring the level of peacefulness in 163 countries based on 23 factors such as violence, crime rates, civil wars, terrorism, military expenditures and weapons imports. In the 2016 index, North Korea ranked 150th and South Korea 53rd.
