Trump: N. Korea to Be Dealt with Strongly

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that North Korea will be dealt with “very strongly” following the North's first missile test-fire under his presidency.
Trump made the warning on Monday during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following their summit meeting at the White House. He added that the North is a “big, big problem.”
Trump also looked to be sending a message to the North during a joint media conference he held with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe after the North’s ballistic missile test-launch on Sunday.
During the media event, Abe said the North’s latest missile launch was absolutely intolerable. In response, Trump said he wants everybody to understand and fully know that the U.S. “stands behind Japan, its great ally, 100 percent.”
However, U.S. media outlets and North Korea experts are saying Trump is not yet showing as strong a response to the North as he can.
Experts said although he denounced the North’s missile by holding an unscheduled media conference during his summit meeting with Abe, he only read a 23-word statement.
They said the statement was also focused on the expression of support for Japan, and did not directly mention North Korea or any missiles.
The New York Times said on Monday, Trump is responding to the North’s missile provocation with an unusual restraint, adding his silence draws contrast with his previous verbal warnings against the North and Iran.
For example, when North Korean leader Kim Jong-un claimed in a New Year address this year that the regime is in the final stage of preparations to test-fire an intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM), then President-Elect Trump dismissed it immediately, saying on his Twitter account that it will not happen.
