U.S. Strategic Assets to be Mobilized for Key Resolve, Foal Eagle Exercises

U.S. strategic weapons will be mobilized for the annual South Korea-U.S. Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercises scheduled to kick off next month.

The Defense Ministry said in a report to the parliamentary committee on national defense Tuesday that the two countries are discussing the deployment of more U.S. strategic assets in order to demonstrate their alliance and determination to sternly deal with North Korea’s provocations, including the latest missile launch on Sunday.

A South Korean military official said that the two allies have already agreed on the phase-in mobilization of U.S. strategic assets, including F-22 stealth fighter jets and nuclear-powered aircraft carriers.

The Nimitz-class supercarrier USS Carl Vinson, F-22 stealth fighter jets, and B-1B and B-52 bombers are expected to join the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle exercises.
