Gov't to Develop EMP Bombs, Laser Weapons to Hit N. Korean Targets

The government has decided to develop electromagnetic pulse(EMP) bombs and laser weapons to hit North Korea’s key nuclear and missile facilities in the event of contingency.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration unveiled the decision when it gave a briefing at the National Assembly’s National Defense Committee on Tuesday.
The defense agency said that to counter North Korea’s threats, it will extensively develop key technology related to the Kill-Chain preemptive strike system, the Korean Air and Missile Defense System(KAMD) and the Korean Massive Punishment and Retaliation(KMPR) plan. The three plans make up the South Korean military’s so-called three-axis system.
The agency will inject 54 billion won into developing 26 such technologies, including EMP bombs and laser weapons.
As part of developing such technologies, the agency will also invest 74 billion won into 12 new projects, including one on developing a synthetic aperture radar and antennas that will be mounted on reconnaissance satellites that will monitor the North.
